Babydoll

The name "Babydoll" was popularized by the 1956 movie Baby Doll starring Carroll Baker in the title role who was seen wearing the garment in what was a controversial scene for the times.

The babydoll is a short, usually sleeveless, loose fitting negligee. It most often consists of a loose fitting skirt (about upper thigh length), attached to a bralette (shaped cups that emphasize cleavage). Babydolls may feature trimmings of lace, ruffles, appliques, marabou fur, bows and ribbons, and are often made of sheer or translucent fabrics such as nylon or silk or chiffon.

Bodystocking

The bodystocking is a tight-fitting whole-body hosiery, similar to leotards, catsuits, and unitards. A bodystocking may consist of no, short, or long sleeves and is often crotchless. Bodystockings are usually made from either sheer fabrics similar to those used in pantyhose or fishnet.

Bustier

The bustier is similar to the basque but longer in length. It's original purpose is to push up the bust and gently slim the waistline. Bustiers are often trimmed with lace, ruffles, or ribbons.

Camisole

The Camisole or cami is a slim to loose fitting sleeveless lingerie, which covers the upper body and extends to around the waist. Camisoles may feature spaghetti straps and are increasingly being worn as outerwear.

Chemise

A chemise is a shirt-like, sleeveless lingerie, similar to the camisole, but usually extending past the waistline.

Corset

Corsets are boned, tight fitting lingerie that shape the torso. A corset reduces the waist and exaggerates the hips and bust. They are similar in appearance to the bustier without straps. The corset has a long history in fashion dating back to the Victorian era and is easily one of the most recognizable items of lingerie.

Garter & Garter Belt

The garter is a band of fabric used to keep stockings up. A garter belt is a item of lingerie worn around the waist that is fastened to a garter, holding up stockings. Nowadays, garters and garter belts are usually sold in sets - the garter and stocking combined and a separate garter belt.

Teddy

A teddy, also called a body or camiknicker, combines a camisole and panty in one. Teddies resemble a one piece bathing suit, and are often made with a range of material - from lace to leather.

Boyshorts

New to the world of lingerie, and growing in popularity, boyshorts are a form of panty. Boyshorts can extend either partially or fully over the rear, offering greater coverage and comfort than the bikini panty.

Thong

The thong is both worn as an undergarment or swimwear. In the front, it is similar to the bikini, but the rear consists of a thin strip of fabric running between the buttocks. Thongs come in a variety of styles and varying thickness.

G-String

The term G-String is often used interchangeably with thong but is in fact a type of thong. The G-String is a thong whose rear strap is so thin it fits between the buttocks, allowing a minimal coverage that may be mistaken for no coverage at all.

Pasties

Pasties are an adhesive covering for the nipple slightly larger than the nipple itself. Pasties come in a variety of materials and can be decorated, most notably with hanging tassels.
